The CCD scanner works on a different principle, and instead of lasers, the use of many tiny light sources, which requires the reader to close the bar code. The high laser scanner, on the other hand, are able to read at a distance of several feet, and Bluetooth wireless models, the data can be transmitted even a few hundred meters. This allows the operator to “sweep” a couple of labels, without pressing and releasing the trigger for each label.
